So in about a year I am going to be a bridesmaid for my little sister. This is just the kind of goal I need to start losing some weight and getting healthier, which all ties in nicely with my quest to be a calmer, happier and healthier person.
I have decided to vlog about my journey as that will give me a visual reminder of where I’ve been and where I am and as it’s something that makes me rather uncomfortable it will also help to keep me in check. Plus it’s always good to push yourself.
During my journey I will be getting to try all kinds of new products and sharing my experiences of them with you.
Last Monday I started The Jane Plan and had planned to get my blog and vlog live this Monday after my first weigh in, but life got in the way, I did manage to get the vlog life yesterday at least but now’s time for my written thoughts.
With the Jane Plan you get sent all the breakfasts, lunches, dinners and afternoon snacks you’ll need for the month and all you need to add it two portions of dairy a day (milk, cottage cheese etc) and at east five portions of fruit and veg a day.
It’s been super convenient, everything is either ready to eat or just needs to be popped into the microwave for a few minutes.
Breakfast normally consists of a muesli, porridge or granola and a handful of raspberries, I’m obsessed with raspberries. Then around 10ish I grab an apple or a pear for a morning snack.
Lunch is either a soup or one of the tasty salad pots, then I either serve that with salad leaves and a portion of fruit, or a couple of portions of vegetables.
In the afternoon I grab one of the snacks from my delivery, almonds, seeds, oatcakes or a sweet biscuit, I’m saving all my biscuits and the little chocolate bars as I’m really looking forward to them, so far I’ve just had the nuts and the oatcakes, as whilst I like them they are my least favourites.
Dinner is one of a huge variety of ready meals, pastas, curry, stews, chilli, just so much variety. So far I have loved the Malaysian Curry and the Fish in Sauce with Rice, the Cottage Pie with Lentils was amazing, a couple of the pastas were only so so, but still more than edible. I have been eating such lovely food and such variety, it’s the best I’ve eaten for years!
The plan suggests you use fresh vegetables, but for me that doesn’t work, husb doesn’t eat vegetables not really, and if it were just me and L we wouldn’t get through enough to warrant buying a selection without it being wasted, so we’d get just carrots or just broccoli until we’d finished off the whole bag which would be boring, so I buy the microwave steam vegetable portions, which means I get loads of variety and it’s still great quality and really fast. One little bag contains two portions of veg which is perfect for the plan.
For me the negatives have been that I chose to take weekends off, I thought it would be easier for me to fit around the family and have a few treats at the weekend, but in reality I think it would have just been easier to just be on the diet all the time. I have always found it difficult to find something for all of us to enjoy, that hasn’t changed.
The positives have been I’ve lost weight, it’s really easy to follow, with plenty of food, good portions and for me quite a visible way of seeing how much veg I should have in comparison to the main event. There is loads of variety, I’ve barely got the same meal twice and so far there have been a few things I’m not so keen on but nothing I have disliked, mainly though everything has been incredibly tasty and I would have chosen to eat it whilst out and about.
So what about my weight this week? Well I’ve lost 3lb! 3lb with 5 days on the diet and the weekend off, I’m so happy with that. It’s a maintainable weight loss and it has been easy, which is always a good thing.
Some tips for you if you’re going to do it. I find laying out my food the night before really useful, so I’ve got no decisions to make during the day. have also found that by eating the things I wasn’t sure about, or that weren’t my favourites first, I’ve only got yumminess to look forward to, so that should stop my willpower slipping.
My fitness tracker from Terraillon has once again been a great motivator, I’m going out of my way to hit my steps count and time active goals, I’m still struggling to take time away from the laptop on my work days to get out and about, but I’m starting to see just how much more productive I am when I do. It’s a hard mindset to pull away from though.
Disclosure – I have been sent my products free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
