This Plus That Equals…. Getting More Sleep

This plus that equals…. getting more sleep

Here’s the latest instalment in my series of posts all about what makes our lives here at home tick. This week, following a little quiz I took in a magazine, I’ve been trying to get some more sleep. It’s not as easy as it seems.

It’s not as easy as going to bed earlier

I wish it was. I wish I could just go to bed when I felt tired. The thing is I have things to do. Things that can’t be left.

There are deadlines, a job, housework. Things that cannot be left.

If I didn’t do them and went to bed earlier then I would just have to get up earlier which defeats the point.

I’ve already made a lot of changes

So that when I am asleep I sleep better we’ve invested in blackout curtains which have helped. We got a great new mattress so that I am more comfortable. I’ve got my fabulous Lumie that wakes me gently and mimics a sunset to send me off to sleep. I love it so much.

I’ve made all the little changes I can to help myself.

There is a sleep thief

With a sleep thief in the house there’s only so much we can do.

He creeps in during the night to check we are OK and then spends the rest of the night making sure we do not sleep! It is so sweet. But it is so draining.

If it carries on we will have to put the child gate back at his bedroom door to keep him in. I don’t want to do this as he was loving the independence but I need to sleep.

Exercising

Just a few minutes of exercise everyday is making a real difference. I’m starting small and hoping to build it up. But it actually wakes me up during the day and makes me happy.

It helps by keeping my days and nights really separate. Plus it’s good for me and I needed that.

My journals

Journaling and meditating

I write a journal every night which helps me unwind and deal with any immediate anxiety. I can’t sleep if I’m worrying about something, so I write and that will usually do the trick.

I’ve started meditating every evening which helps too. As I’m then in a calm and quiet space mentally that allows me to fall asleep quickly.

    1. I’m the same. My eyes are heavy as I type but I really want to get one more post written and then give the kitchen a quick once over!! What is wrong with me. If I’m tired I should just go to bed.
