L’s 3rd Birthday Party

L turned three the other weekend so to celebrate we had a little birthday party with our family.

He is happy with the attention for the day and it keeps both the cost and stress manageable for me, just, it’s still stressful filling your house with people, family or not!

This year was a tractor theme. We had loads of decorations from JCB kids and other little bits that I had kept aside after a Twitter party earlier in the year. For his main present husb and I had bought him a large ride on pedal tractor with a trailer and a working bucket at the front, which he just adores.

For his cake I kept it simple. I baked a straight forward chocolate sponge. I covered this in chocolate frosting (store bought) to level it out and give something for the icing to stick to. Then covered the whole lot in green icing.

I had bought some small tractors and diggers online, along with traffic cone candles, so these got popped on top. Using chocolate chunks I then filled the buckets of the tractors and diggers to create my building site.

I was really pleased with the outcome I have to say.

Food was kept simple too, just some crisps and peanuts to nibble on, a pizza and wedges. Very easy. I was really pleased with the little personalised cupcakes we had got from Caketoppers, they were mini classic sponge cupcakes with a photo of L printed onto them.

Everyone stopped to comment, mainly that they were super cute and that they felt bad eating L’s face. Something everyone got over once they had actually eaten them, even my father in law who isn’t a fan of cake enjoyed them and he is very hard to please.

At £29.50 plus postage for 25 they aren’t cheap, over a £1.00 per bite-size cake. But they are delicious. The picture printed amazingly and as a treat for a special occasion they were perfect. You also get to select the day they are delivered. They come in a lovely well packaged box and last for several days after delivery.

Present wise L was well and truly spoilt. He got lots of bits for his train track and his great granddad had even built him a large table to put the track on. It’s just the right height for him and it folds away so it’s perfect for us. He is a clever thing.

He had a super day and even now he is still saying that he misses his party and can occasionally be found singing happy birthday to himself. Thankfully he has had Daddy’s birthday to keep him amused since. Poor old husb didn’t get to open a single present and was quite frankly very lucky to get even a single mouthful of his own birthday cake!!

Thank you to all my friends and family who made his day so special, we are very lucky to have so many people who love him so much.

I just need to start thinking about next years party theme now.

Disclosure – I was gifted my mini cupcake from Caketoppers in return for my honest opinion.
