Over the summer I went to a lot of christmas shows. It was great fun and I got to see what a lot of the different supermarkets were offering this year. I’ve also been doing a fair bit of my own Christmas shopping too. It is great that you can find so much on the high street now, or slightly out of town, depending on where you live.
So I thought would give a shout out to all of my ‘best’ products. Please remember I haven’t gone to all the shows for every shop, I’m only going to mention what I’ve seen and what I liked.
Morrison’s had hands down the best Panettone I have ever eaten. Light and fresh, a true delight, available from the bakers. It’s amazing! They also had a cracking dessert, a Snowman you hit and crack open for some extra treats and matching Christmas Jumpers for adults and kids. Twinning is winning!!
Aldi won my heart with a wine Advent Calendar, but as advent is nearly over I thought I would you tell about their Vegetarian options! To die for. I get bored with the same old, bland veggy options at Christmas but the Root Vegetable, Quinoa and Cheddar nut roast is superb and in the perfect portion size I was also rather taken with the Butternut Squash, Brie and Cranberry Vegetable Wellington. With the ‘Festive’ Tiffin Centrepiece and Cheese Cakes you can build yourself, it was a miracle I ever left!
If you are lucky enough to have a Booths near you they have an amazing selection of local food and drink. Toffee Vodka and beautiful chocolates. Smoked salmon that is so delicately flavoured you’ll be blown away and if you aren’t close their hampers looked divine, but there is only 3 days left to order those, you’ve got until midnight on the 21st, so get on it. Having tried and tested a lot of the cheeses they have on offer, I personally would go for the ‘Perfect With Cheese’ hamper and then buy all the cesse to go with it.
I think we have bought our local Tesco out of all the festive kits this year. Honestly, I think we have. I went back to order more kits this week and they are gone. The Chocolate Tree Pops were so much fun to make and easy too, perfect with a small child and the Gingerbread House will be our Christmas Eve make. With Reindeer cupcakes to be made as well I am so excited. The packing is fun and the contents spot in, with everything you need and clear instructions. We love them.
When it comes to Mince Pies you need to try Walkers, they are superb and pickles will always be Opies, did I mention they have gin soaked fruits this year, mmm. Thankfully you can these from a variety of high street stores.
Christmas is all about the food and this year the supermarkets have us sorted.
Disclosure – I was a guest at the Christmas shows but coverage wasn’t asked for expected. All opinions are my own.
