As a treat before I started my detox I made up one of Husb and mine favourite curry’s a Goan Fish Curry, using one of the kits Hari Ghotra kits.

Hari specialises in North Indian cuisine with the aim to simplify recipes without losing their authenticity. The kits are filled with all the dry ingredients like spices, pastes and lentils that you will need and there are loads to choose from so there is bound to be a curry kit for you. The kits are priced at £3.50 which is great value and you don’t need to add to many other ingredients. Each kit is linked to a video on Hari’s website so you can follow the online tutorial if you want. I chose just to use the easy instructions that came in the kit.

When it came to making up my kit we had waited until the little one was in bed, this was a mistake as it wasn’t quick to prepare or cook and I had to give my food processor a good work out, using the both the blender and the spice grinder attachments, I had never used the spice grinder before but I was glad I had it as there were a lot of whole spices to be broken down and it would have been hard work by hand.

Because the aim is keep everything authentic there were a lot of steps and lot of different things on the go at once, from chillies rehydrating in a jug of boiled water to fish marinating in a bowl whilst I blended and cooked tomatoes and onions and more chillies I wouldn’t say these kits are for the faint hearted. They are not difficult as the instructions are clear and super easy to follow, but this not a quick alternative to a great curry.

My kitchen was soon smelling amazing and I had enough curry for four bubbling away on the hob which was handy as it meant I could freeze a couple of portions. When it was almost done I sorted out my rice and a couple of naan breads and then we settled down to enjoy my creation, which was awesome, too hot for me (I foolishly hadn’t taste tested as I was still rocking a coldsore when I cooked it so wouldn’t have added the extra chillies had I known) but husb loved it and I have to say it was one of the best curries I have created.
