Feeling Calm

Feeling Calm #133

For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

The boy has had his birthday! He’s five. How has this happened? We’ve been busy celebrating, very busy.

Here are my top ten moments from the last 7 days:

  1. L being very excited to give me the clay model he made at school, a snake with legs and eyeballs, he was very proud of himself and it secretly gave me a good laugh.

  1. A lovely long walk through the fields with L after school. We had a nice chat, picked some blackberries and made the most of the sunny afternoon.

  1. Friday I actually got to write about my lovely new sewing machine from Hobbycraft. I love it and had made some really cute things but hadn’t had the chance to write about it and that had been weighing on my mind so it was great to get that job ticked off.

  1. Baking L’s birthday cake ready for the weekend, I was so happy with it It looked great. Until the top slid off in the fridge and I had to buy a replacement the next day. But I shall just concentrate on the fun baking and decorating part.

  1. Saturday we had a large family meal for L’s birthday. The restaurant was great, good food, great views and very helpful staff. Best of all they had a little mini arcade with 2p machines and some ride on police bikes that just made L’s day.

  1. Sunday was brilliant. We went to Pettitts with L and his best friend and his family. Their birthdays are one day apart so it was lovely to celebrate together and have some fun. The boys loved it and we had a great time.

  1. L and I started the week with a lovely walk before school. We enjoy these little moments together and try to fit it in most days and I just really, really enjoy it.

  1. L’s birthday was lovely. We opened his presents on the morning, he cried because one was broken, I cried because he cried, but then we headed off to school and one of his friends had made him a card and a girl from one of the higher years had as well. It was really special.

  1. I had a lovely pub lunch with one of my mum friends, it was just what I needed as I was really sad to not be able to spend his birthday with him, so we had lunch and chatted and put the world to rights before the school run. I’m so grateful to have people in my life I can do this with.

  1. When L got home from school I got to hear all about his day, we had a special tea, pizza and cake, then played with his new toys until bedtime. It was lovely.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.

I’m linking up with #BloggerClubUK, #BestandWorst & #CoolMumClub just because I love them.

  1. Hi Bryony,

I love this more than ever this week – I think your example of the benefit of focusing on positives has really touched me. Consistent, simple yet always happy joyful family moments. You have inspired me so much that I’ve FINALLY started a gratitude journal too. So for that, THANK YOU!
And as always, thanks for linking to #coolmumclub
