Feeling Calm

Feeling Calm #137

For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

It’s been a lovely, normal, quiet week. Well quiet for me anyway. I have been enjoying the routine that L being back at school brings, though I’m still a bit weepy about the whole thing. Generally though, life is good.

Here are my top ten moments from the last 7 days:

Feeling Calm

  1. Wednesday morning a couple of the school mums popped over for a cuppa and a biscuit. For me the best thing about L going to school has been the positive effect on my social life. I have friends, friends who are easy to spend time with and 100% get me. It was lovely to spend the morning having a little chat and a giggle and a complain about stuff. A great start to my day. Feeling Calm

  2. As I’m not a massive fan of trick or treating, though I can see that next year I will have to get over that one as L’s school do genuinely all seem to go out and he felt really left out. We had a great Halloween themed dinner and lit the pumpkins, decorated the house and had a fun evening. L was really sad that no one knocked on the door and when I went out for an evening walk I realised that all the action happens at the other end of the village. So I have a plan for next year which is positive. Silent Sunday

  3. We had our first rainy school run. It meant L didn’t line up in the playground as usual but instead went straight inside gaining me an extra ten minutes at home before work. It also meant I got to take and edit a brilliant picture of L and his umbrella which I just love. Love. Feeling Calm

  4. Saturday I ended up at work all day as someone had called in sick. Not overly positive unless you count the overtime that will hit my packet before Christmas. What it really meant was L and his Daddy got the whole day together and had fun out on his new bike and went to the castle and generally had the fun kind of day I used to so often do whilst husb was at work before L started school. Was I jealous? Hell yes! But did it make me happy at the same time? Oh, so much!

Feeling Calm5. Sunday was a funny old day. L and I spent the morning just cuddling on the sofa and not doing much, he was tired and so was I. When husb got home they went and did some gardening and had a bike ride whilst I tidied the house and got some blog work done. It seemed like a boring morning, but it was actually rather nice to just relax a bit.Feeling Calm

  1. We were heading out to watch the Fireworks Sunday evening when I somehow managed to get a massive, I mean massive, splinter from a wicker basket under my fingernail. It was awful. But as I was nearly passed out on the bathroom floor, yes, I’m such a wuss a splinter had me floored. L did such a good job of looking after me, he bought his favourite toys to cheer me up and then just sat next to me holding my hand. It was the cutest thing. Feeling Calm

  2. We actually went to see Fireworks. I love them so much and for one reason or another we never go to displays. Literally the first time husb took me was a couple of years ago. L doesn’t like loud noises so we chose our display carefully. We ended up at Snetterton, our local racetrack, somewhere we have spent a lot of time so we are very familiar with it. I knew there would be toilets, a play area, food, inside areas if it was too cold etc. I was also fully aware that it wouldn’t matter where they set the fireworks off from, or where we were directed to park, we would be able to watch the display form the car if needs be.  There was a lot to do, so this gets two of my highlight slots!Feeling Calm

  3. Playing at the funfair with L and watching him win at hook a duck, his little face was a picture. He won a tractor so was very happy and then he got a hotdog and a light up sword, he would have been happy at that point, without any fireworks or anything else! Then there were the fireworks, L was a bit unsure, he asked for giraffe and stood very close. He had his ear defenders on, so that helped a lot, he would have left without them, Instead he just stood close and watched, he said he was a little scared but didn’t once ask to leave. That in my mind is just so brave, to be a bit scared and a bit unsure but to stay regardless. I’m not sure if he’ll want to go next year, I hope so. It was a brilliant night. Feeling Calm

  4. Going out to lunch with my bestie. We don’t get to see each other all that often so it was lovely to have a catch up. Plus we went to my favourite cafe and it was a beautiful sunny day so I had a little walk. I couldn’t have asked for more really, spending a beautiful day with a beautiful person. Oh and there was cake as well, can’t believe I nearly forgot the cake!!

Feeling Calm10. My in laws popped over to pick up some bits I had got for them and to come with me to get L from school as a surprise. That was a lovely treat. Then one of the school mums popped over for a cuppa whilst she waited for her parents evening slot and the boys played together nicely whilst she nipped back to the school. It was a really nice evening, busy but filled with niceness and friends.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.

I’m linking up with #BloggerClubUK & #CoolMumClub just because I love them.
