Feeling Calm

Feeling Calm #141

For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

It’s been a bit testing this week, trying to fit everything and dealing with a very tired and irritable child and a very tired and irritable husband, which to be fair has left me tired and irritable. Fun times in our house at the moment!!

Here are my top ten moments from the last 7 days:

Feeling Calm
Decorating the tree with my best elf
  1. A rainy morning walk to school. Weird thing to be happy about but I love the walks in the horrid weather for a few reasons. The don’t actually happen often so it makes for a change. L loves battling his umbrella against the wind and rain and hearing him laugh with glee is always fun. I also get to drop and run at school, as they go into the hall and don’t hang out in the playground, it’s a nice treat and gives me back another 20 minutes of my morning.

We loved getting to meet the reindeer
  1. I’m not sure how I feel about this yet, positive or negative but it could be potentially a major thing so it makes the list. I have been approached about maybe being featured on a TV documentary. Aargh. It’s nothing to do with blogging, though I won’t lie, the exposure won’t do any harm. It seems like a nice idea and is focused on something I have been collecting for a lot of years. But do I want to show that slightly obsessive, completely crazy side of me to the whole world. Oh I just don’t know. It might not even happen. It’s nice to be asked though. If they do want me on actual TV what should I do? Go for it? Or stay nicely out of the limelight and carry on as if nothing happened?

Though I think L loved the fire engine more!
  1. Lebkuchen. Love ’em. Saw them in Tesco. Bought a bag. Munched a few. Remembered how much I love them. Made me way more happy than a lightly biscuity, cakey thing should. They look pretty. Some are iced. Some have chocolate. They all taste like Christmas. I might stock up so I can enjoy them over them summer months too.

Christmas Tree waffle on a stick
  1. I actually had a whole Saturday off work which was a delight in itself, but it meant we could fit loads into our day. We started by decorating our tree. I relinquished control and let L hand all the bauble and he’s done a lovely job, I only moved two! It was a really nice thing to do together.

A lovely walk round Norwich
  1. We also popped into town for a Christmas festival, L and I had a longer walk than expected as all the car parks were full and that meant we were late to meet a friend. This lead to me calling a different friend (same names and an easy mistake) and catching up, after we got over the epic confusion! L and I saw reindeer, had a delicious waffle on a stick, looked at loads of craft stall and played hook a duck and had a go on the lucky dip. We caught up with my friend and just had a fabulous morning.
Silent Sunday
If you’re in Norwich, this store outside intu Chapelfield smells amazing!
  1. We capped of our day lounging on the sofa watching Christmas movies, I had a nap whilst the kid cuddled in and then I ordered a pizza as quite frankly I could not be bothered to cook! L thought it was absolutely wonderful, and I had pizza, so it was a winner all round really.

We enjoyed the circus show inside The Forum
  1. Sunday we popped into Norwich to look at all the Christmas lights, we had a lovely wander round and saw loads of the decorations and even did a bit of shopping. L wanted to spend some of the pocket money he’d been saving, it was hard to make such tough choices, but he ended up with a truck and a tub of pic n mix from Poundland.

So excited to go to Turtle Bay, it’s his fave
  1. We had a delicious lunch at Turtle Bay so we could test out the new and improved kids options. It was delicious and I love the changes they have made, really excellent, I’ll get the review written up ASAP so you can see what changes they have made.
Feeling Calm
Dessert was a big hit
  1. Finding the cat! We had got home on Sunday and he was waiting for us, as ever. He came in, he played, he ate. Then we didn’t see him, we went to bed, no sign of him. Not unusual over the summer but a bit odd when the weather is iffy. We got up on Monday and still no cat. This has never happened. Ever. Husb went and checked the sheds and cars, he’s a sneaky bugger and will slip in behind you and get shut away. Nothing. I got L ready for school and had a sinking feeling in my stomach, but took the kid to go and call for him anyway. We went to get his bike out, and there, in the shed husb had checked, was my poor cat. I have never been so relieved to see the daft creature!

This creature had me so worried
  1. Picking L up from school after his Christingle service. I’m still not 100% sure what it is or what in entailed, I’m not religious and despite going to a CofE school Christingle is a new one on me. Regardless, he seemed to have had a lovely time and was singing me a hymn that sounded very familiar but wasn’t quite recognisable and was so pleased with himself that he had got lots of donations in his little candle pot that he could add to the collection.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.

I’m linking up with #BloggerClubUK┬á just because I love them.
