For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.
This week has been lovely, busy but not nearly as tough as last week. It has been quite chilled and we’ve all had a good time.
Here are my top ten moments from the last 7 days:
1 – Getting the most amazing Winter Survival package from BioKult. Not only did they treat me to some vitamins that should help me stave off any nasty bugs but they thoroughly spoilt me with a gorgeous scarf, candle and mug. I had been feeling a little under appreciated and their thoughtfulness perked me right up.
2 – Decorating cookies, making hot chocolates and cuddling up with the kid after school to watch a movie. I fancied Paddington but was overruled and we watched Turbo, but it was the cuddles I really wanted and it was lovely.
3 – After having a sea of miserable, unhappy and rather unpleasant customers at work, due to the global issues with the O2 network, which strangely enough are entirely out of my control, I got one who was lovely. She was genuinely appreciative of all the help I gave her, stopped to have a chat with me and took the time to actually say thank you. It meant the world to me, especially after such a miserable morning. I really wish more people would treat shop assistants as actual humans, it doesn’t take much, just eye contact and a thank you.
4 – Finally and much to L’s glee, going through all his Lego sets, rebuilding them and storing them away so they won’t always get broken. It took ages but was very satisfying and now L can play with a few bits at a time, instead of having to get every single thing out!
5 – Whilst I may have missed the village Christmas fair being at work, it was lovely to see the photos and get to hear L tell me all about it. Including all the friends he saw there and how he won a chocolate santa from the school’s tombola stand.
6 – Taking L to Elveden to see Santa, we had a lovely afternoon wandering about watching the Newfoundland dogs pull people’s trees to their cars and listening to elves sing. We enjoyed mulled wine and hot chocolate before finally heading to the North Pole to see Santa. It was just a nice afternoon.
7 – Stopping at a brilliant Aquatic centre on the way home from Elveden and looking at all the fish and reptiles for sale, they also had an amazing Christmas display that we enjoyed.
8 – Watching L in his very first Nativity. He did brilliantly and I’m so proud of him. I may have cried a little watching him, I got very emotional.
9 – My super pregnant sister started her maternity leave on the day of L’s nativity so she came to watch it with us. It was lovely to share it with her and L was so happy that she came to watch. We then got to have a good catch up and didn’t stop talking for a good few hours!
10 – Writing out my Christmas cards with a little help for L who signed his name in each and every one, regardless of who it was going to. We then went for a walk in the dark to post the neighbours cards and drop the others in the post box. We took a little detour to see some of the Christmas lights and it felt like a real treat going for a walk by torchlight.
I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.
I’m linking up with #BloggerClubUK just because I love them.
