Feeling Calm

Feeling Calm #147

For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

Hooray for lovely normal, totally unexciting days. It’s been so nice to just get on with everyday bits and bobs and feel like I’m achieving something whilst still getting to catch up with friends and not feel entirely overwhelmed.

Here are my top ten moments from the last 7 days:

Footpath sign

1 –  A nice long walk and trying out a new footpath. I love getting to go for a long walk on my days off. I wish I had a dog to keep me company but I’ll settle for the silence.

2 – My parents popping over to see L when he finished school. He doesn’t get to see them often so it was a real treat for him. He was super tired though and I’m not sure they took that into account when they arranged to come over.

3 – We went into Norwich on Saturday as husb had an opticians appointment, it was nice just to have a little look at the shops and spend some time with L. He enjoyed the display of mechanical creations in The Forum and being treated to McDonald’s for lunch.

4 – Excavating dinosaurs. I treated L to a little dinosaur excavation kit from Flying Tiger and he loved it. We actually did a couple over the weekend. Good messy fun.

5 – L got a KS1 Merit Award at school, it was in the newsletter that he got one along with one of his friends. We have no idea what he has done, what it is for or what it represents but he got a little smiley face badge and was very proud of himself so we in turn were very proud parents.

off to school

6 – Sunday morning saw us become super spies as we followed a Treasure Trail around Wymondham. It was a lovely way to spend the morning and so close to home so it was nice and easy.

7 – We popped back into Norwich in the afternoon to pick up husb’s glasses and L was kind of exhausted when we got back home so we spent the rest of the afternoon playing lego and watching movies. It turns out I was exhausted as well as I fell asleep on the sofa!

Wymondham Market

8 – L slept in, on a school morning, obviously! But when he did get up he just wanted to cuddle and was very cute. I think he might be a bit under the weather, hence the cuddliness, but I’ll take it where I can get it.

9 – Going out for lunch with one of my mum friends. We chatted. Shared a baked camembert and chips and plotted a much needed mum’s weekend away. A lovely way to spend some time.

Enjoying the frosty starts

10 – A ridiculously yummy dinner that honestly just made my entire day worthwhile. Loads of vegetables, mashed potato, yorkshire puddings and a super yummy cheese and leek pie from Lidl. Coupled with a couple fo G&Ts and Netflix it made for a pretty perfect evening!

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.

I’m linking up with #BloggerClubUK  just because I love them.
