Feeling Calm

Feeling Calm #148

For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

Ok, so clearly last week I was feeling smug with my whole I’ve got this vibe! I have not got this, not at all. I’ve been in a bit of a pickle mentally this week. Feeling entirely overwhelmed but with no focus or appetite to work either. Classic signs that I’m on the brink of darkness. I have found that since I have have gained the ability to notice these signs, then write about them, I can often often avoid the dreadful spiral into the depths of it all. So here’s hoping.

Here are my top ten moments from the last 7 days:

Feeling Calm
It’s an Albino Giraffe!!

1 – ¬†Popped to see my sister and niece for the morning. Was lovely to see them both. On the way home completely forgot that L’s fairy had promised him a new toy as a reward for his Merit Award but thankfully managed to buy him an Albino Giraffe from Lidl, phew. I realise it is indeed a Llama or maybe an Alpaca, but he doesn’t like them, he likes giraffes!

Feeling Calm
Amazing sunrise

2 – A stunning sunrise!! Lot’s of frost and a very happy child on the school run. That’s how to start the day.

Feeling Calm
Very excited about the frost

3 – After the shock of my manager and work bestie taking a promotion and moving to a different store, TRAITOR!!!! We found out who our new manager would be and it’s only her brother my other work bestie, hooray, now that was a relief as I do not like change and had been very worried how it would affect our little team and my happy work bubble.

Feeling Calm
I love my new terrarium

4 – Receiving a lovely new Terrarium from the Urban Botanist. I’m very lucky and get so many beautiful things to review or include in gift guides but this is really special and makes me smile everytime I look at it. So I have positioned in front of the sofa where I do most my work, so whenever I look up I see it.

Feeling Calm
James loved his new toy

5 – I had bought a very cheap new cat toy for James. He always rubs his cheek on the corner of the wall and makes it super grubby, so I found a specific cat rub for the corners. When it arrived he went barmy, rolling around like something deranged, I couldn’t put it on the wall as he was busy playing with it. Then I realised there was catnip in there! L and I just had the most fun watching him and we were both laughing so much at the daft creature.

Feeling Calm
Group cuddle

6 – Thoroughly exhausted the cat then curled up on my lap, L curled up beside me and we all had a little cuddle. Absolute bliss.

Feeling Calm
A very nice walk to see the snowdrops

7 – We all went on a lovely walk to the snowdrop wood Sunday morning. They looked beautiful, we got some fresh air and L and I got good and grubby sploshing about in the mud. It was a great way to start the day.

Feeling Calm
The snowdrops are so pretty

8 – After such a lovely start to the day L managed to somehow cut his toe at home. It’s the first time he’s actually had an accident like that, we’ve had plenty of bumps, bruises and grazes but never any cuts. It really shook him and he was glued to me for the rest of the day. Mean as it may sound, I really enjoyed it, the cuddles were epic and we had a Disney afternoon. He was a bit subdued and quiet, I actually got to relax.

Feeling Calm
Disney day

9 – Monday morning was a bit of a shocker. I had to go and wake L up. He normally wakes at 6am, lately it’s been 7am which quite frankly feels luxurious, but Monday I had to go in and wake him up at 7.50am. I thought we would be late for school but thankfully it started to snow and I’ve never seen a child get dressed faster! He was so excited to get out and walk in it, trying to catch snowflakes on his tongue.

Feeling Calm
Can’t wait to explore this bit of woodland

10 – I’d been eying up a footpath sign I’d spied when driving out of the village a few weeks ago and Tuesday I found myself with time to go and explore. I got in a great two mile walk and discovered a new area of woodland that has public access, I’ll be back to explore the woods next week. Very exciting.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.

I’m linking up with #BloggerClubUK  just because I love them.
