For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.
It’s been a bit manic with the kid back at school. He’s taken a while to settle back into it and been a bit of a monster in the evenings, a horrid mix of mentally exhausted but not physically tired. Bedtimes have been taxing to say the least.
Here are my top ten moments from the last week:
1 – My poor friend burnt her hand badly on holiday. The plus side to this was I got to spend a fab morning with her using the excuse of helping her to wash her hair. We’re a little group of three who all used to work with each other, so we used the excuse to catch up, all three of us and lend a hand. Literally.
2- I took an afternoon out, just for me, to nothing but watch trash TV and actually relax. I needed it and should have done it a lot sooner. Honestly when I write about feeling calm and I have been anything but, I have been an anxiety riddled mess, I should have known better.
3 – I caught L hugging all his toys goodbye before school and talking to them like they were his children. Literally the cutest thing. It made my heart melt.
4 – We had a lovely family day exploring Landguard Fort, it was fantastic and we will definitely be going back. Perfect for us all and it was a pleasure watching L explore.
5- A little perk of going to Landguard Fort for the day was actually getting to see where husb has been working for the last few months. As he’s working in Ipswich we haven’t just swung by or anything and it’s been a bit odd not really knowing where he works, so it was nice to go and see the site.
6 – I popped into work on Sunday afternoon and we had a little impromptu leaving party for our manager. He’d only been with us a couple of months but I’ve known him for a lot longer and will be sad to see him go.
7 – There is a benefit to working in retail and that is reduced stock. In this case Easter Eggs. They are so cheap I left with a bundle of yumminess.
8 – L has been busy trying to complete a school challenge that has involved him doing certain tasks, like the laundry and carrying his own bag to school. It’s been a delight and he’s been so helpful!
9 – The weather has been improving this week so L and I walked home from school across the fields. It was lovely to take some time out together and have a mini adventure. I love walking, it helps centre me and is brilliant to improve my mood. I hope it is good for L too and by feeling calm from a walk he’ll be better at bedtime.
10 – L’s reading has come on leaps and bounds recently and he read so nicely to me after school we had a celebratory waffle, with ice cream, squirty cream and sprinkles for dessert! Good lad.
I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.
