Feeling Calm 16

Feeling Calm #16

For my birthday I was given a great new book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends to help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday and on Wednesday’s I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

I’ve had a pretty good week this week. I got out of practise of meditating and really practising my mindfulness so I’m putting a lot of effort into that and I’m already feeling a million times better for it. I’m also making more effort to just be happy, surprising how much just trying to be happy actually makes.

I’ve still had some profoundly rubbish moments though, the cat has taken to bringing me live birds, little sh*t, the child pissed all over me, the shade on my swing chair broke and other such irritations so I’ve still found it therapeutic to pick my 10 moments from the past 7 days and here they are;

Cut on L's ear
Such a tiny cut you can barely see it! Silly mummy!
  1. Top, top, top of my list this week was taking the little one to the Doctors and finding out he was OK and I was being pathetic. He took a tumble at nursery and cut his ear, the tiniest cut in the world and they didn’t even send him home, but when I picked him up and found out they had changed the dressing a few times I went into panic mode and rocked up at the Doctors without an appointment, they were super nice and saw him almost immediately, cleaned the tiniest cut in the world, popped on a steristrip and they didn’t even laugh when I almost fainted at the thought of my precious boy being injured and the sight of his blood.
  2. Ordering me and the boy a pizza to make up for the whole injury ordeal and enjoying it being just the two of us and making the most of Daddy being away for the night by having a sneaky late night together watching Monsters Inc.
We also too a trip to Flixton to see the planes, this did not go well, so didn’t make the list but it is a nice picture

  3. Catching up with an old friend who I’ve only recently got back in touch with, it is honestly like no time at all has passed and who couldn’t do with more friends, especially ones who have seen you at your worst and still love you!
  4. Watching L when his Daddy got home, just the cutest thing ever, he’d only been gone a night but you would have thought it was longer, he waited at the window for about 20 minutes just because I’d mentioned Daddy would be home soon.
  5. Taking a few nights off, no work, no social media, no blog, just a few evenings for me and husb. I need to do this more often.

    JCB Kids Toys
Look how happy he is with his JCB Kids Haul
  6. Watching L open his JCB Kids delivery, he was almost at Christmas level excitement, needless to say he went to bed with all three tractors, one of which was huge, wearing his new jammies which I had to force him out of the next day!!
  7. Finding my absolute favourite drink on sale in Aldi, it’s a French Coconut and Lime Lemonade which I found in a Degustabox ages ago but hadn’t been able to find in the shops since, it tastes like Cream Soda only better and I’m a bit obsessed with it, so I bought loads and won’t let anyone else drink it! Quote from my journal ‘it’s like drinking heaven’.
  8. Catching up with some friends and their son for a fun day out at a zoo that’s about halfway between us.
    A well behaved toddler
It can happen, an entire day with no tantrums!

  9. An entire day of a well behaved child. Don’t get me wrong L isn’t naughty, but he is two, so there is always at least one tantrum, one tense moment, but we had an entire day of him being superb, it was a real pleasure!
  10. L nearly drowning me during his swimming lesson because a crocodile was eating his foot!! We were swimming along nicely when he climbed on top of me in a panic because ‘mummy muuuuumy ‘dile eat my foot’ it was the funniest thing ever, obviously after I had calmed him down.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week, it helps keep me focused and happy and is a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.

  1. Awww L looks so happy with his JCB. He’d have a great time at our house – that’s the type of toy my boys enjoy too! I’m glad your little one’s ear is ok. It really is lovely to pick up with a friend right where you left off! Thanks so much for linking up with #bloggerclubuk x

  2. This sounds like such an amazing thing to do. So often those wonderful moments can slip away and get forgotten, so I love this idea of writing them down and then reading them back each week to find the very best bits! x #TheList

  3. I think focusing on the positives especially when times are challenging is so important. I do a daily gratitude practice every night before I go to sleep which I find helps hugely! Good on you. And thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub lovely xx

  4. The books sounds great. I’ve started doing Qigong, which really helps me banish stress and just get a better flow with life, you might be interested, just done a post on it! Happy to connect, don’t think I’ve got you on Twitter, I’ll add you now. Happy mid-week! #BloggerClubUK
