For my birthday a couple of years ago I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.
It’s been a lovely week. Great weather, Great friends. A last minute weekend away, it’s just been delightful. Just what I needed as well. To have a bit of a break.
Here are my top ten moments from the last week:

1 – Thursday morning we had some building supplies delivered and L had just discovered how to work the camera on his new tablet. The poor guys had their every mood scrutinised! It’s been lovely seeing how fascinated L has been with everything and every single builder, labourer, delivery driver who has been to us has been lovely with him.

2- I got home from work to find we had walls. It was quite an exciting moment.

3 – After school L and I went out to meet my parents for dinner. Nothing exciting just a McDonald’s but it was lovely to have a catch up. It did mean a slightly excitable child come bedtime but it was worth it.

4 – Saturday saw us head off for our weekend away. It was a lovely impromptu getaway and just what we needed. A little bit of grown up time. We headed to Rutland which is a gorgeous area of the country.

5 – We explored Kirby Hall, an English Heritage property that happened to be almost next to our room for the night. It was absolutely beautiful and so atmospheric. Plus we were treated to a brilliant display from the peacocks.

6 – Next stop was Lyddington Bede House. Another nearby English Heritage property, which whilst small, was absolutely fascinating. It was perfect timing for us as we arrived about an hour before it closed and had a lovely little look round before heading back to our room.

7 – We found a delightful pub for our dinner. It was gorgeous and the food was amazing! One of the best meals I’ve had in ages. The cheeseboard I had afterwards was pretty bleedin’ good too. Mainly though it was just nice to go out and eat at a civilised hour and to be able to actually read the menu and choose what I wanted, then have the luxury of eating whilst it was hot and having time to savour it.

8 – The next day we headed to Rutland Water and managed to walk nearly ten miles. It was fabulous. Really pretty and so well appointed. We had breakfast at one cafe, walked to a visitor centre and found out a little about the area. Walked to Normanton Church, which was one thing I really wanted to see, before heading to another cafe for a drink and cake. Then we headed back to the car. It was brilliant to get such a long walk in and spend some time together just talking.

9 – When we picked L up from his grandparents we are able to stop for a chat and I had a drink with my mother in law. It was nice to have a catch up and stretch out our weekend just a few more minutes!

10 – Monday night my friends popped over for gin night. It was great. we had so much fun, catching up on each other’s news, laughing so much and just enjoying ourselves. We all had news to share and support to offer. I am very lucky to have such amazing people in my life.
I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.
I’m linking up with #BloggerClubUK just because I love them.
