Feeling Calm 18

Feeling Calm #18

For my birthday I was given a great new book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends to help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday and on Wednesday’s I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

Oh my word wasn’t the weather over the weekend AMAZING, if anything was going leave me calm and happy it was a hot weekend filled with splashy paddling pool fun, a few ciders and a BBQ at my sister’s. I’m slightly concerned that we’ve used up all the good weather though, we’re off to Devon at the weekend and last year we got the worst weather, this year I would at least like it to be dry.

I’m not sure if I’ll update my top ten next week, or do a top 20 when we’re back, but in the meantime here are my top 10 moments from the past 7 days;

  1. Taking some time out to myself to sit in the garden and read, just enjoying the sun and having a few minutes to myself was amazing and a felt so much better for it.
  2. We’ve been having a few more attempts at potty use from the boy, but he’s got it into his head that his potty must be emptied in the garden! I discovered this whilst on the phone, just seeing his little naked self trotting past me with a potty of wee, it was all I could do to not burst out laughing. He turned a toy truck over, climbed up to reach the door handle, poured everything outside then went about his day.
  3. A bit of water play in the garden, we had to get the watering cans out because L’s slide was too hot on his bottom. I love that he now tells me these things and that he thinks up solutions. The simple things make me so proud.

    Neither a calm, nor happy moment, but I was super grateful to get it fixed
  4. Getting my new tyres fitted. I was supposed to be seeing a friend last week but got a puncture on the way, so not only did I not get to see my friend, I had the stress of knowing I had to get my tyre fixed ASAP as it’s my car we’re taking on holiday, its money I don’t really have and I live in the middle of no where so I need my car. But I digress, Kwik Fit had the tyres I wanted, on offer and came to me the next day to fit them, plus husb will get some free football shirts. All that worry for nothing. Such a relief to get it all fixed so quickly.
  5. L embarrassing his daddy at nursery. We’d gone to pick him up together and in front of everyone L just pointed at husb’s crotch and loudly declared, ‘Daddy go wee’, I have never seen that shade of red on my husband, not in all the years we have been together. I still have a little giggle just thinking about it.

    Love watching these two play
  6. Watching L tackle the assault course his daddy built him at soft play, I love watching them play together and it also meant I get to sit by myself with a drink for a few calm moments.
  7. Taking L to a local aquatic shop, yeah we pushed the boat out with that day trip, but they have loads of fish from goldfish to marines, they have all kinds of lizards and snakes, even crocodiles and really cute bunnies and hamsters and such forth. L was obsessed with the frogs they had, he loved them. We think we might get him a goldfish for his birthday in October, I know at three he won’t look after it as such but he can help and after seeing how much he loved them I think it could be a good idea.
  8. Getting the hose out and getting soaked by a very happy and very excited child. It was fun to just relax and be childish and have a water fight with my little boy, plus it was so hot none of us actually cared.

  9. Going to my sister’s for a BBQ and Pimms, oh and teaching L to say Hello followed by blowing a raspberry whenever he saw my sister after her revelation that she couldn’t blow a raspberry herself. Nothing like being mocked by a two year old all day.
  10. Watching L play his latest game, roly roly, it is simple. He just rolls about on the floor giggling saying Roly Roly and giggling more. Super cute.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week, it helps keep me focused and happy and is a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done. It really does help me in my journey to be calm.
