Feeling Calm 19

Feeling Calm #19

For my birthday I was given a great new book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends to help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday and on Wednesday’s I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

We were in Devon all of last week, so I didn’t write my top ten last Wednesday. I’ve been toying with a catch up top 20 this week, just missing a week or doing a top ten from the last 14 days and that is what I have opted for.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, going away takes up so much time, getting work done before hand, being shattered afterwards. Dealing with everything whilst you are away but without the home comforts. It can be draining but ultimately, we had fun and it was worth it, although there were times during the holiday I may not have said that!

Here are my top 10 moments from the past 14 days;

  1. Getting to show my nan the Prom pictures of our cousins in America on Facebook, my nan’s sister was a GI bride and moved to The States and had a lovely large family, who we were lucky enough to stay with a couple of times, but keeping in touch with them, especially the younger ones is hard for nan without the internet, so I love to catch her up on things.

  2. Having genuinely the best day in forever with L, we cuddled all morning, he let me work whilst he snugged in close, we had a lovely cycle ride, we chatted and played and it just lifted my spirits. As a side note, he was really ill that night, but vomited all over husb and not me for once.
  3. A fabulous, no tears, nursery drop off. He loves nursery and has a lot of fun there but the drop off are hard and make me feel unbelievably guilty. This makes a good drop off something to be treasured.
  4. My husband cooked tea! A miracle. Only beans on toast but still I didn’t have to cook it.

  5. Taking L on an impromptu Pedalo ride, to break up the drive to Devon I’d booked us a hotel in Winchester and on the way there we stopped for food and to stretch our legs at Broxbourne Old Mill. #l decided he fancied a ride on the river so we just went for it.
  6. Visiting National Trust Knightshayes, I’m not sure I’ve been to a house with formal gardens that are so whimsical. I loved it, truly beautiful and such lovely weather.
  7. Exploring the little private beach at our holiday park with L, small and rocky, but perfect for splashing, skimming throwing stones and finding shells and sea glass.
  8. Getting L settled into bed and enjoying a Pimms Cider and sharing a tub of Ben and Jerry’s with husb. It was nice to just put our feet up after what had been a very taxing day.

  9. Going on the bumpy slide with L, I had enjoyed watching him on the slide with his daddy but eventually it was mummy’s turn, and you know what it was actually really good fun!
  10. A five hour car journey home, normally my idea of hell, especially as L steadfastly refused to nap. But he was so much fun, the whole journey. We chatted and played silly games and had a real giggle. He was calm, I was calm, it was good. My neck and back will never be the same again, and I’m pretty certain he’s still full up from the constant stream of snacks he demanded but it was lovely for something that should have been so boring to turn into an actual highlight.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week, it helps keep me focused and happy and is a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.
