For my birthday I was given a great new book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends to help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday and on Wednesday’s I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.
This week I’ve felt rather stressed and behind with things work wise, as for actual paid work I’m not behind at all, blog reviews I’m not quite where I want to be but equally I’m not being chased so it can’t be that bad but blogging the personal things I want to write about I’m not even close.
I know things have to be prioritised and my blog should just be a bit of fun so I shouldn’t be stressing about it, but that’s just the kind of person I am. So today the boy is at nursery and I’m sat out in the garden and planning to catch up a bit.
It’s weeks like this where I have really noticed how my Mindfulness practises really help, I take 15 minutes out of my evening to write down one thing that made me feel calm, one thing I’m grateful for and my top three moments of the day. This focuses my mind on the positives and makes me feel happier, it also allows me to see trends and invariably my calm moments are going cycling, walking or cuddling with my boy, so I know I need to do a lot more of that. I also take 20 minutes a day to meditate, which is tough when I feel I’m behind on things, but I do it anyway and I feel amazing and way more productive afterwards.
So here are my top 10 moments from the past 7 days;
- Having a lovely walk around Swaffham just me and my boy, husb had gone to see his nanny, she’s in a home, but we didn’t think it was suitable for L to go this time as she’s just had a nasty fall and broken her nose and she’s not in the best shape, so I spent some time with L at a nearby park and then when some older children came and got a bit boisterous for L’s tastes we had a lovely walk into town and he was just so well-behaved and chatty it was perfect.
- Going to the open farm, as part of farmsunday.org our local Arla Dairy farm had opened it doors, there were tractors for L to sit in, bouncy castles, we got to watch the robots milking the cows, see the calves and there was a BBQ, homemade cakes and Pimms. So perfect all round. We loved that Arla had sent so much to the farm to support them, stickers and puzzle books and even milk samples for us to take home and we loved that farm had worked so hard to make it an amazing event, people had come from miles around it was just brilliant.
- Getting invited to a press trip in Bavaria! How freaking exciting is that, I only found out yesterday afternoon and fly on the 20th, so not long to wait. I’m still over the moon and quite frankly even though I’ve got the flight confirmation through and already checked in for one leg of the trip still don’t quite believe it is happening. I can’t wait to share some more with you, but I can say it is camping related. Eeek!
I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week, it helps keep me focused and happy and is a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.
