Feeling Calm

Feeling Calm #89

For my birthday last year I was given a great book ‘Calm’ and a journal from my friends. To help me find some calm in my life and to de-stress a little. I have been writing in my journal everyday since and on Wednesday’s (or late on a Tuesday) I go through the daily highlights I’ve written down and pick out my 10 favourites.

This week has been a whirlwind. I’m only one article behind where I wanted to be, which is amazing all things considered. I’ve been on a press trip, enjoyed some time with my boy and been back and forward to the hospital as my Father in Law had a nasty accident. A whirlwind. Oh and amazingly I had an actual night out, I know, I was out after dark! Shocking.

Here are my top ten moments from the last 7 days:

  1. Making the most of my extra hour at home since my work patterns have changed and getting through some social media tasks and organising a few bits that I usually put off. It was actually handy as there isn’t much you can do in hour, other than those little jobs that get put off in favour of the bigger tasks.

  2. Helping my parents sort a few bits out. I never get to help them out with much so that was nice.
  3. Getting an afternoon of work in whilst L was with my parents. It was such a relief it actually counts as a highlight!

  4. Going out with my bestest for a lovely evening meal. We think it was the first time we had been together without our kids for around 8 years! It was so nice. We chatted and caught up, though our plans for a sleepover and copious amounts of wine and movies were scuppered we still had a great time and will certainly make more of an effort to repeat it.

  5. A delicious meal at Turtle Bay with a very happy child who was just a pleasure to hang out with. It was nice to have a few moments together as a family in what was an otherwise hectic weekend.
  6. A lovely walk around Eaton Park, just enjoying some Autumn sunshine and having some space for L to really enjoy his new balance bike. A great afternoon out.

  7. Just watching L with his grandad in hospital. It was a weird one as it’s not a pleasant situation, no one likes going to hospital. But with a very badly broken arm and being stuck on his own for days we wouldn’t think of not visiting. To watch how well L was behaving and see him trying to look after his grandad in his own little way was a real treat. He was pulling funny faces to cheer his grandad up and telling everyone to be careful around him and even held his hand to walk him round the ward for some exercise. So sweet to watch it warmed my heart.

  8. Trotting round the garden centre with L. it’s one of his favourite days out, especially this time of year. He loves to see the fish and the Christmas display is amazing. We were both in awe of it and getting carried away with all the beautiful lights, trees and decorations.
  9. Catching up with a friend and having a good chat as our boys played. Considering the age gap they play together quite nicely, alternating that with ignoring each other quite pleasantly too. It makes it quite easy for the two of us to catch up!

  10. Having a nice afternoon with L doing a spot of shopping and having a nice lunch out. We checked out some of the Christmas lights in Norwich and just had a nice little chat as we walked around the shops.

I’m really glad I write down a few positives from each day and then go back through them each week, or in this case month. It helps keep me focused, calm and therefore happy. It is also a great way to keep a note of the things we’ve done.
