Dettol have launched a great new campaign #gettheworldready exploring how real mums get prepared for meeting their little ones for the first time, sending them off to nursery or play group for the first time and generally preparing the world around them at every step.

Whether you’re a first-time mum or you’ve been through it all before, a little help to get everything ready for your new arrival can go a long way.
I remember wishing with my whole heart that someone would just pay for me to have a cleaner, just for one day, to blitz the house from top to bottom and most importantly to really clean the oven. The oven bothered me for quite some time! By the time the ‘nesting’ phase really hit me I was huge, I could barely fit behind the steering wheel of my car, if I got down on my hands and knees it would so serious negotiations to get me back up and heavens above if I thought I’d have a nap of the sofa, they were so big a squishy, as was I , like a turtle stuck on it’s back I found I was unable to right myself!! So some of those cleaning chores that really bothered me were actually super hard to remedy.
Then I had him, I spent 7 days in hospital because he was ill, with everything clean and sterile, bringing him home was the most amazing and terrifying thing all at once. Very soon we realised we had to buy a tumble dryer, no two ways about that. That we would forever be cleaning, usually baby sick off me, off him, even off the cat and once the entire back of the car after a rather spectacular incident. There weren’t enough anti bacterial wipes in the world for us and seriously I don’t know how I got by in life without a baby wipe!
It’s best to not even talk about how I got prepared to send him to nursery, there were a lot of tears, mainly from me, a lot of labelling of clothes and even more washing of clothes. The biggest thing about him starting nursery was also him starting to pick up bugs, that first year just seemed a constant battle against illness and because he dragged his giraffe with him everywhere, he had a lot of germs too. The washing was relentless.
Dettol have some handy hints to help get you prepared and have made some adorable video’s too.
No matter how clean your home is, it’s essential to take extra care when you’re preparing for the arrival of a new-born or have a toddler keen to explore. Adopting these simple hygiene habits will ensure that your home is hygienically clean and safe for your little one:
Healthier Surfaces
- Nurseries should be kept free of harmful germs, especially in the first few weeks. Don’t forget it’s not just the changing mat and cot that can harbour germs but also frequently touched areas like the door handles and light switches. Dettol Anti-bacterial Surface Cleanser has no taint, no odour and no bleach and is suitable for use in baby contact areas.
Germ Free on the Go
- From that first night in the hospital to the first trip out, keep car seats, highchairs and all your baby equipment germ free with Dettol Anti-bacterial Cleansing Surface Wipes which kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses and are great for hard to reach surfaces and on the go.
Hands
- Keeping your hands clean, before and after handling your little one, is really important to make sure germs don’t spread. If you’re feeding, changing, or perhaps handling food or pets, try our Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System. It automatically dispenses anti-bacterial Hand Wash, after you place your hands under the nozzle to help prevent the spread of germs.
Added Laundry Protection
- It’s not just re-used baby clothes and bedding that can harbour germs, new ones can too! While washing at low temperatures is kind to baby’s clothes, it doesn’t offer protection against bacteria which can survive below 60˚C. Use our unique Dettol Anti-bacterial Laundry Cleanser alongside your normal detergent and softener to guarantee hygienic cleaning, even at temperatures as low as 15˚C.
