The Reading Adventure Club

Giving the gift of Reading

L was recently sent an amazing box, filled with lots of little wrapped up presents and a book. The excitement was palpable. But what caused all this excitement? A delivery from The Reading Adventure Club, that’s what.

The Reading Adventure Club is subscription box tailored towards children ages 8-11. Each month your chosen child will receive an adventure book through the post. As the children progress through the book, there are up to 10 wrapped gifts and info sheets that bring the story to life to be opened at specific pages in the book. Some are fun, some are educational, and some even edible! No matter which, they are all linked to the story.

I liked that as well as all the gifts you also get a sheet of prompts and questions, just check that they have actually been reading the book and not just saying they’ve got to a certain point to get to the next gift. The prompts also help them get used to reading, analysing and feeding back, exactly as they do at school!

It’s also a great way to encourage reading, Leo was desperate to read the next section, squeezing in pages before school, demanding extra book time after school and forgoing the TV to read on and get another gift!

The Reading Adventure Club

Created by Albert and Finn, whose mother was always trying to get them to read more. Well, they thought if they had presents while reading then they would read more . A simple idea that has been brought to life and I think makes just an amazing gift!

Leo really enjoyed his book, Barry Loser – I Am Not a Loser by Jim Smith. It was silly and funny and had some great illustrations. The lure of present s definitely kept him fully engaged and he loved that they were all linked to the book. Some were funny, some were useful, some were edible. They were all linked though and we loved trying to guess what it would be based on what had just been read.

The Reading Adventure Club is one of the best things i have found for L recently. Something we all genuinely loved and it would make a marvellous Christmas gift. Found out more at thereadingadventureclub.com
