We’ve gone through a bit of a cleaning breakthrough here in the Any Way To Stay At Home household. With the help of a list and some fab time saving products I’m feeling pretty smug in my domesticated-ness. So over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing some of my tips with you, this week it the Gtech AirRam K9.
We now follow a weekly cleaning schedule and on that schedule is a little slot everyday for a quick vacuum. This is all very well and good if it was indeed a quick job, but by the time you’ve got it plugged in and unwound the cable, dragged the thing around the house, wound the cable back up and put it away it’s easily 25 minutes of your life gone.
Quickly clearing up a spill is such a chore you might as well just do the whole house. Don’t even get me started on emptying the thing, although that may just be our cleaner, it was such a chore I would do anything to avoid it.
So I was really happy when the guys from Gtech asked if I would review the Gtech AirRam K9. It’s the new, stronger, tougher, pet hair tackling brother to the AirRam. It is amazing. It has made this 25 minute job into a 10 minute job, if that.
Now I’m not talking an in depth, thorough vacuum here, just a quick go over each room everyday to keep on top of things, then on a Monday we do a deep vacuum. So we can easily do our little 2 bed bungalow in under 10 minutes.
It cordless which is awesome. No fuss, no wires to get tangled. Literally just press the on button and you’re away. The charge lasts really well, around a week for us, sometimes 6 days, sometimes 8. The website states a 40 minute run time and whilst I haven’t timed it I would agree with that based on how often I have to charge it. A full charge takes around 4 hours.
It’s super lightweight. As I was building it up after it was delivered, which is really easy, I was sat on the floor and able to pick it up from near the base with just one hand, easily. My toddler can use it, in fact he loves to, he doesn’t clean effectively unfortunately so I can’t palm the job off onto him yet. It’s also really manoeuvrable.
I like that it takes up less space than our old upright vacuum and that it looks nice and sleek too. I like the little 4 bar battery indicator lights on the front. Plus the K9 has little scented pads in the filter to keep everything fresh and guard against pet odours. Nice.
My favourite feature is how easy it is to empty, the dirt collects immediately above the rollers, so there are no pipes to get clogged or need clearing. All you do is lift the unit out, pull off the lid, which contains the filters, and tap it into the bin. Done. I don’t know how long it takes to fill as there’s been no need. It’s so easy to empty I just do it after every clean.
Crazily it doesn’t feel like there is much suction. It’s quiet and it never feels stuck to the carpet unlike other cleaners we have owned. But boy does it have some good suction, so much it actually moves by itself. The cat fur it has picked up is immense. In fact I’m pretty certain our carpets have never been so clean. It also moves with ease between hard floors, carpets and rugs. Nothing to adjust, just move between the surfaces and it sorts itself out.
The one thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t have any attachments, so on it’s own it wouldn’t replace our old cleaner. To do that you would also need the Gtech Multi. Now the Gtech AirRam K9 is £249, which when you compare it to other similar cordless vacuums is a steal. The Multi is another £149. This obviously makes you think. Thankfully you can buy the two together as a package and save £69, so £329 in total, which is still great value. Now if I were to make the purchase myself now, knowing what I know about the AirRam K9, I would certainly get the package, without a shadow of a doubt. That’s without having used the Multi. I’m so impressed with the Gtech AirRam K9. I just know the Multi wouldn’t disappoint.
We have been using this daily for a month now. I wanted to give it a really good use before reviewing it. I have cleaned the reusable lifetime filters, that was easy. There has been no change in performance or battery life. It has certainly been put through it’s paces. The cat has been moulting. There have been several birds in the house (thanks James) which has resulted in lots of feathers. We’ve been in and out of the garden constantly dragging everything inside. It’s very impressive.
I would happily recommend the Gtech AirRam K9 to anyone pet owner or not. Both my husband and have said if we had just spent the money on this a few years ago, instead of buying a string of cheaper cleaners that never lasted, we would have been better off.
Disclosure – we were sent our cleaner in exchange for an honest review.
