Please tell me I am not the only one who sometimes finds themselves standing at the fridge wondering how on earth you are going to prepare a meal with what you’ve got, one that’s quick, easy and will be enjoyed by your toddler. It’s not just me is it?
I wish I was the kind of mum who was organised enough to always have meals planned and live with a permanently stocked fridge, but I am not. So when Kiddyum got in touch to see if L would like to try some of their frozen ready meal range I was really excited.
It’s hard to find ‘ready meals’ for toddlers. When he was a baby there were lots of options, I could always have an emergency jar or pouch in the cupboard, even those earlier stages of toddlerhood there were options but now at two he is far too small for a grown up meal and far too big for a baby pouch, he would laugh in my face.
All I need is something the right size portion for him, that he enjoys, is healthy and cooks quickly. Something for those days when I am too tired, too busy to prepare a meal from scratch or for those days when I have prepared a meal from scratch but he has decided that he will not, under any circumstances, eat it!
Kiddyum’s frozen meals for young children aged 1-4 years are available nationwide in Sainsbury’s stores, so I can grab them with my weekly shop and pop them away in the freezer for when I need them, they are the perfect size and jam packed full of yummy, natural ingredients, with no added sugar or preservatives, low salt and are also free from GM ingredients, artificial colours and flavours.
The most important test however was what L thought of them. He really likes the packaging, picking them out from the freezer by himself he gets to choose the one he wants and with the simple pictures has some idea what he’s getting which he likes. He enjoys that the food is quite grown up, the pasta isn’t tiny cutesy shapes, just regular macaroni or similar, there are tasty sauces and lots of veggies.
As for flavour I’ve had no complaints from him, everything has been eaten followed by cries for more and even with the cheesy peas the odd ‘mmmm yummy cake’ which is the highest praise he knows how to give.
These Kiddyum meals get 10/10 from both Mummy and L. Big smiles all round.
