I do enjoy the chance to craft and I also love the surprise offered by a subscription box. Not knowing what you’ll get, the fun of unwrapping it, then a little project to complete. So exciting. That is exactly what you get with Makerly.
When October’s box arrived I squealed with excitement, it was a quilling project. Quilling!!! Little did Makerly know, but quilling was one of my first forays into paper crafting when I was but a youngster and I have loved it ever since. As it happens I haven’t done any quilling projects for years, so I was very happy. 
September’s Makerly Craft Box contains a Sugar Skull Quilling Kit, I love the Halloween theme, bright colours and the simple idea of framing ir. It’s a quick and easy craft, super simple to learn and looks amazing. 
One reason I really love quilling is that you can finish a piece in under an hour, so when you are crafting with a child about it is a great way to get a bit of me time and to see a finished project. Very satisfying. I spent a bit linger on my Sugar Skull, about 90 minutes, or the length of whatever Fireman Sam Movie is currently playing on Cartoonito.

A very full box and other than maybe a pair of scissors, you literally don’t need anything else. 
As soon as I started making my little quilled shapes it all flooded back to me, I quickly lost myself in a colourful sea of shapes and swirls. I actually created and glued my sugar design before I placed the edging round, I found it easier that way, but it directly go against the instructions. Though that’s what crafting is about, taking and idea and making it your own.
It really was a lot of fun and I am so pleased with the results. It is currently displayed with our other Halloween bits and bobs, but I think it will make its way to my craft wall in the conservatory after the season has passed. It’s just too pretty to be put away until next year!
The instructions are brilliant and now I have all the tools and lots of leftover paper to do some more quilling projects, I’m thinking some Christmas cards or decorations perhaps. My tip, make your shapes first then have a play with your design, you can always make more and keep any leftover ones for another picture.
I loved my October Subscription Box from Makerly, I’ve created another decoration for my Halloween stash and now have the tools to add to my papercraft collection so I can make more whenever I fancy it.
