I do enjoy the chance to craft and I also love the surprise offered by a subscription box. Not knowing what you’ll get, the fun of unwrapping it, then a little project to complete. So exciting. That is exactly what you get with Makerly.
When Septembers box arrived a couple of weeks ago I was excited to open it up and find out what was inside, it smelled so good, the actual unopened box!
September’s Makerly Craft Box contains a Cupcake Candle Kit, I love candle making but had never tried anything so adventurous. Turns out, these amazing looking candles are so simple to make, so simple my son actually helped.
L was really intrigued when he saw the kit and helped me make them over a few afternoons after school and one weekend. He was so good at following my instructions and being careful with the hot wax and loved decorating the finished cakes. We’re both very proud of the finished product.
Inside the box was:
- Two tubs of wax flakes
- Vanilla Scent
- Coloured Heart Wax Melts
- A handy stirrer
- Wicks
- Lollipop sticks
- Silicone Cupcake Cases
- Wax colours
- Instructions
So much in fact, it barely fit in the box.
I loved the fact that L wanted to join in with this one with me. It was actually a great craft for us to do together. I know many parents may be put off by the hot wax, but in reality you are just heating it in the microwave and stirring until it melts. Then stirring in the scent and stirring in the colour.
I helped L pour the coloured wax into the cupcake moulds and made sure the wick was positioned nicely. I also made the waxy, icing topping and popped it on top. L got to decorate them though and he was happy with that.
It really was a team effort and we got to chat about silly things and just be together. We also got a bit scientific talking about the wick and the wax and how it works. As well as pulling in some fire safety. So it was well worth while. Mostly though, it was flipping good fun!
The instructions are fabulous and despite me dropping my Pyrex jug with candles worth of wax in it and smashing it on the floor, we’ve made two whole candles and have enough left over for a third. Guess what we’ll be doing this weekend?!
My tip, use a plastic jug, a cheap one you can keep to one side for more candle making. It’s addictive, it really is. It’s one of those quick hit crafts. A few hours of drying time and you have the finished article and looks great.
I loved my September Subscription Box from Makerly, I’ve used one of the candles we’ve made already as L wanted to use it, the second is popped to one side to be the topping to a nappy cake I’m making my sister and I’ve got all the bits to make another and instructions to keep forever. Oh my word, we just had so much fun.
If you fancy subscribing to Makerly, and quite honestly if you love to craft why wouldn’t you, just pop over to their website where they have several gift and personal subscription offers starting at £13.33 a month. A bargain considering everything you get!
