The ‘Out There’ international festival of circus and street arts is returning to the streets of Great Yarmouth for the 12th year on 14th and 15th September 2019. Known to be weird, wonderful, outrageous and outstanding, the Out There Festival will bring the people of Norfolk some of the world’s finest circus and street art performers.
Themes for this year’s festival will include cultural democracy, borders, environmental health and activism.
“Out There is now the biggest free festival in the region and pretty much the biggest programme of circus in the UK regularly attracting more than 50,000 people. It is a truly intercontinental festival featuring a host of international and UK acts, many of which are UK and world premieres, says Joe Mackintosh, Chief Executive for SeaChange Arts and Artistic Director of the Out There International Festival of Circus & Street Arts.
He continues: “Seachange Arts is also the UK’s foremost producer of new street arts and circus work, with companies from all over the world making shows in the Drill House year round – the UK’s only full time dedicated creation space for street arts and circus with a worldwide reputation.”
Look out for the ‘Liberty Zone,’ an unpredictable mix of serious and hilarious work by multiple circus companies exploring threads of democracy, oppression and revolution situated in the Market Place. This event is sponsored by Go Trade, a cross-Channel project to help revitalise historic markets with a range of market events and promotional activity to support town centres and visitor economies in England and France. *
The Saturday Night Spectacular aims to delight and educate on cultural democracy and climate breakdown through large scale street animations with world famous French street performers, Générik Vapeur. They are performing their brand-new show, ‘Thanks For Having Us,’ which will take the form of a large street procession exploring man’s relationship with the planet and the climate/pollution crisis. There will also be shows co-produced by Seachange Arts created at the Drill House.
Joe Mackintosh says: “Almost half of this year’s programme has been co-produced by SeaChange Arts. Out There is unique in the UK and we guarantee you will see things here that you won’t anywhere else in the country.”
He adds: “This year’s big show is of huge significance and it’s an absolute humdinger. ‘Thank you for having us’ is a massive outdoor mobile spectacular specially produced by the festival with the legendary French rock and roll street arts anarchists Generik Vapeur and the brilliant young Gorilla Circus company. Both are companies we have worked with a lot but this is the first time they have made something together, in fact it is the first major large scale outdoor show made by a UK and French company for about 25 years! It features high energy political street theatre about man’s energy with nature, plastic in the oceans and our future in the planet with absolutely stunning circus and flying trapeze – it encapsulates everything the festival is about. It’s unmissable!”
The organisers are asking people to join them at the Festival Lounge at the Drill House from Thursday evening (September 11th) for a relaxed welcome to the 12th Out There International Festival of Circus & Street Arts. You can register for one or both parts of the programme and then, if you choose, join over the weekend as the organisers mix outstanding networking opportunities, festival hospitality and another world class programme of street arts and circus including 20 UK and World Premieres!
Emily Phillips, Communications and Development Manger comments, “SeaChange Arts is a registered charity and we are immensely excited about this year’s line-up. We work tirelessly throughout the year to secure funding to bring more cultural opportunities to the people of Great Yarmouth. We are committed to bringing dynamic, exciting opportunities for people to work alongside the best local, national and international artists and to make as much great art accessible to as many people as possible. Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters, without them this wouldn’t happen.”
