Authors I Love

This Plus That Equals…. Authors I Love

This plus that equals…. authors I love

Here’s the latest instalment in my series of posts all about what makes our lives here at home tick. This week is all about reading. Something that I have always loved and couldn’t live without, so I thought I would share some of authors I love with you.

I’m a complete murder mystery addict, as you’ll soon be able to tell. But just in case anyone wants to know what my favourite ever book is, you’ll be surprised to hear it is A Bear Called Paddington – Michael Bond. To this day it is my go to book when I’m ill and it still makes me laugh.

Jefferson Bass

Actually two people, Jon Jefferson and Dr Bill Bass, have written the Body Farm series.

I am about half way through the series and love the mix of real life and fiction.

The Body Farm is indeed a real place. A place that Dr Bass actually founded. A place written about in many a Patricia Cornwell book.

Well worth checking out.

Blake Pierce

A recent discovery of mine, Blake Pierce has penned a multitude of books under 4 different series.

Each series of books stars a female law enforcement officer of some description. Somehow what I was worried could be quite samey, has turned into 4 entirely different, incredibly gripping sets of books that I now must complete.

The first book in each set is currently free on Google Books, so I would suggest popping over and grabbing them.

Deborah Crombie

I stumbled across Deborah Crombie by accident at the library. In a rush I grabbed a book with an interesting cover and left.

Turns out I had got the 4th or 5th book in a series and so almost didn’t even bother reading it. I’m so glad I did though.

I haven’t read a single book in order which is most unlike me.

Yes, each book centres round a crime to be solved, but the overlying story line is warm and comforting, complex and real.

 Charlaine Harris

I was, and am, obsessed with the True Blood books. I’ve read them all. Own the audio books versions. Have watched the TV shows.

When a new book was released my husband literally couldn’t talk to me, I sat in my chair and read until the book was finished.

These books sucked me in and whilst the 1st season of the TV show was very close to the 1st book, they then went their separate ways. I 100% prefered the books, but loved the TV show as well, as it just gave me an alternative ending.

Roald Dahl

This list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Mr Dahl.

A lot of the books I read as a child/young adult really helped to shape me. Roald Dahl probably the most.

I have read everything he has written, not just the children’s stories and I had done this by quite a young age.

I can remember being a bought Fantastic Mr Fox at our local book store and walking home. There was me running ahead of my parents as far as I could and then finding somewhere to sit and read until they caught me up and repeating the process. I’d finished that book before I got home.

I can still remember the feeling I got reading Boy for the first time.

Now, I have the pleasure of sharing the books with L. So far The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me is his favourite and I can’t help but agree it is a god choice.

I love reading and always have done. These are just a few of the authors whose books I’m binging on at the moment. This year I am aiming for 52 in 52. So a book a week, every week this year. I’m 1 book off target so far, but I think I can do it.

I’ve lost it a bit since having 2 under 2 but now they are getting older I am slowly getting back to reading a little bit – I am hoping they both get into reading like I did. I had all Roald Dahls books! Great shouts for some authors to check out Nicky x #Blogstravaganza
