This plus that equals…. Christmas Day
Here’s the latest instalment in my series of posts all about what makes our lives here at home tick. As today is Christmas Day, I could only write about one thing, and don’t worry I did it in advance, I’m neck deep in wrapping paper right now.
First things first. Presents will be opened bright and early. I draw the line at before 6.30 am but any time after that and the kid is free to get up and get to the fun of unwrapping!
Last year he was pretty good and actually helped pass presents out to us tired grown ups and wanted to take it in turns us all opening things. We’ll see if that happens or not this year!
As L happily plays with his new toys I’ll try to tidy. It’s entirely pointless, for as quickly as I tidy things away and find homes for our gifts, L will be behind me causing some kind of toy related carnage.
To be fair at this stage of the morning I’m happy if I just manage to get the wrapping paper and packaging out to the bins, happier still if I actually manage to get dressed.
It’s become a bit of a tradition but we like to get out for a mid morning walk. An early start and all that excitement isn’t always the best combination, so it’s nice for us to all get out and into the fresh air, even if only for a little while.
If the weather holds we’ll head off to the village playground and if I time it right I will head off home a little earlier than the boys to get a good start on lunch and enjoy a glass of vino in peace.
There are three of us and I don’t eat meat so we don’t do the big traditional lunch here. Last year we had pies but I have actually sourced a small bit of turkey for the boys this year.
There’ll be roast puddings, all the vegetables, gravy and few other bits. I’ve got a mushroom parcel affair that looks delicious. I try to keep it simple but yummy. I don’t want to be in the kitchen all day!
We do make sure to have Christmas crackers and lay the table nicely though, it’s nice to make a bit of an event out of it!
Movies, snacks, relaxing
The rest of the day is spent just hanging out in front of the TV. I’ll leave snacks out, a few sausage rolls, crackers, cheese, some crudites and instead of an evening meal we can all just graze throughout the evening.
We’ll run through our fave Christmas shows and movies, on my list there’s Elf and L wants to watch The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Stickman, Arthur Christmas and all the festive Thomas the Tank Engines. I have no idea how he plans on fitting them all in!
We’ll just relax and play a few games, cuddle a bit and hopefully even squeeze in a nap. It’s all very relaxed.
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have an enjoyable day and have some time to relax.
Finally, I’m linking up with #TwinklyTuesday, #Blogstravaganza and #StayClassyMama
