This plus that equals…. Cosy Days
Here’s the latest instalment in my series of posts all about what makes our lives here at home tick. This week is all about my love of cosy days at home and what makes them so great.
Getting out and getting cold
I love cosy days in the house. But how would I know it was cosy if I hadn’t got cold to start with? Also, if I actually spend an entire day in the house I go a little stir crazy and the kid would go completely stir crazy!!
So for me, if I want to do a cosy day right, I’ll start it with a good long walk through the fields. Enjoying the fresh air and the colder weather.
The perfect accompaniment to a cosy day is a good, warm blanket. We have loads. Plenty of fleecy character blankets for L and a few different ones that are supposedly for me, but yet L seems to have them as well.
I have a lovely Me To You slanket, grey and think and cosy. L has stolen it! Then there is the little owl blanket that folds into a cushion I treated myself to in Bruges a few years ago, yep, stolen.
Regardless, we have enough to go round and there is nothing better than cuddling up all cosy and warm.
The perfect hot chocolate takes some doing.
A big mug. Milk not water. A good quality, preferable dark chocolate. mix. A chocolate stirrer is ideal. Maybe mint chocolate for that. Then it has to be topped with cream and mini marshmallows.
To complete the perfect hot chocolate you need a biscuit. My ideal would be a hobnob, oaty and satisfying. Or maybe a malted milk, I do love a malted milk.
OK, now I just want a hot chocolate.
I don’t know what it is about the flickering light of candle but I find it immediatly calming. It also screams cosiness to me.
I love being able to match the scent to my mood. Another week or so and it’s going to be all the warm spices of Christmas at the moment I’m a fresher lavender scent, it reminds me of summer evenings.
I enjoy getting to explore different scent and love all the pretty jars and candle holders you can get. One of the first things I do when setting up for my perfect cosy day is light a candle or two.
I touched on fluffiness with the blankets. But cosy days are also fluffy days.
Warm fluffy socks or slippers. Comfortable clothes and if not too early in the day I’ll happily get into my jammies, the fluffier the better when it comes to good jammies.
An oversized fleece lined hoody or my super thick and fluffy reindeer dressing gown, which yes, I wear year round, I don;t care that it’s technically for Christmas. It’s fluffy and snug and makes me happy.
L loves the fluffiness as well, so the fluffier I am, the closer he is. CUDDLES!!
So that’s it, that’s how I like to do a cosy day in.
