This Plus That Equals…. Darker Evenings

This plus that equals…. Darker Evenings

Here’s the latest instalment in my series of posts all about what makes our lives here at home tick. This week is all about what we do now those darker evenings have arrived.

I love candle light

Candles

I love candles and once the clocks have changed I make it an excuse to have them lit every night.

The way they scent the room is very pleasing and then there is something about the flickering of a candle that just makes me happy.

TV

Dark nights are a great excuse for a good boxset or cuddling up to watch a favourite TV show.

I love Lucifer, it’s amazing. I can’t wait for Victoria to return with a Christmas Special. Grey’s Anatomy is a staple for me. Oh and of course lashings of Paw Patrol and Blaze and the Monster Machines. sigh

Comfy clothes
More comfy and snug jumpers for me

Fluffy socks and jumpers

They are just so cuddly!

I love a pair of fluffy socks. They keep my toes toasty warm and are just so soft.

A good oversized fluffy or chunky knit jumper is also essential for a dark evening.

Hot Chocolate

L and I love to share a hot chocolate.

To be fair we don’t limit it to the darker evenings but they signify the start of our hot chocolate season.

It’s the perfect way to warm up after a long walk out in the cold. Or a fabulous treat for something well done if I add marshmallows and cream. Movie time and hot chocolate has also saved many a rainy afternoon.

Going outdoors

For some reason I used to feel really restricted when the evenings got darker. Like I couldn’t go outside. We always go for a late afternoon walk during the summer, but the clocks would change and it was dark at 4pm, so I felt I couldn’t.

I’ll be honest it’s taken several years to shake this feeling, but L loves a walk in the near dark. So we wrap up warm, grab a torch or two and go out for our afternoon walks, just like during the summer. Only it’s even more of an adventure and we see completely different things.

  1. Oh my god – I love the idea of going out with a torch! We had to nip to the docs the other day and it was dark and even though it was just round the corner, Zach thought being out in the dark was awesome! Will have to do it more! I also love hot chocolate and candles. Even though it takes some adjusting to, I do love this time of year! Thanks for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

  2. I never take the kids out for their afternoon walk when the clocks change and I really miss it. I’m really going to make an effort to get them out, it would make the day better for all of us and they would love to have their own torches! Thanks so much for sharing with #Blogstravaganza xx

    1. I was exactly like that until one day I thought I was going to lose it with him so just bundled us up grabbed torches and went out anyway. He definitely loves it more for having a torch and we both need that afternoon walk.
