This Plus That Equals…. Health Apps I’m Using

This plus that equals…. health apps I’m using

Here’s the latest instalment in my series of posts all about what makes our lives here at home tick. This week is all about what I would I’m doing at the moment to be a bit healthier and the health apps I’m using to help me along.

Daily Yoga

I always used to love Yoga. The classes I used to attend were immensely helpful for both my mind and body. It’s been years since I last practised though.

Using Daily Yoga I have started up again. It has plenty of free content and the adds to get you to upgrade to a paid plan aren’t too intrusive. I love having set programmes to follow and I do like being able to increase my levels, the ‘game’ element is quite motivating for me.

It’s a beautiful app, easy to use and most importantly the videos and audio instruction are spot on. I’m in love with it.

WinWalk

This little app pays me to walk!!

You get one coin for every 100 steps, maxed out at 10,000 steps/ 100 points per day. You can also complete tasks to gain extra points, like downloading apps.

It’s completely free to use and I have so far claimed 1 x £5 Amazon voucher and 1 x £5 Tesco voucher through a combination of walking and completing missions.

I’d like to see them having some fitness based missions, like a certain number of steps per day for a set number of consecutive days, but so far I’m getting something for nothing and that makes me happy.

Running for Weight Loss

Well there’s no way I’m running, let’s be honest here!! But it also has a very good walking for weight loss feature which I am thoroughly enjoying.

It sets small and achievable walks for you every day, slowly building up both the length and speed. It’s pushing me just enough and most importantly really encouraging me to get out and about each day.

This is another free app and whilst it constantly tries to get you to upgrade, and I mean constantly, you don’t have to and still get a great service. It’s really helping me, maybe after I complete all the walking levels I will be able to start running.

Calm

I’ve been a long time user of the Calm app. Ever since my friend bought me the Calm book which I just adore and use as the basis for my ‘Feeling Calm‘ series.

It has many guided meditations combined in a stunning app. With beautiful animated backgrounds and calming background noise.

That being said, after a recent update that has removed a lot of the free content and made it significantly less enjoyable for those unwilling to pay the eye watering annual subscription cost, I was unsure if I was going to feature it or not.  As yet I haven’t found a meditation app that auto syncs with Google Fit as well or offers as nice of an experience, so for the time being it will stay.

In an ideal world I’d like to see the annual cost of this app drastically reduced or a reasonable one time payment option, as I would happily pay for the content, just not as much as they want.

Google Fit

This app combines all my data.

It allows me to set goals and monitors them. Auto syncs with my calendar entries, so if I have scheduled in fitness goals, it ticks them off when they are completed and adjusts the time they are set for based on my actual real time data. It links with my Smart Scales. Tracks my activity.

Google Fit is like an umbrella app and my go to place for seeing what I am up to. I love that it shows how far I have walked and maps it, without me having to do anything. Tracks my cycle rides and gives me updates on my speed (or lack thereof) whilst I’m riding. It’s probably not enough for serious fitness types, but for me it is perfect and seeing those flags pop up when I hit my goals is super motivating.

Are there any fitness apps you use that you love?

Finally, I’m linking up with #TwinklyTuesday, #Blogstravaganza, #StayClassyMama and #fortheloveofBLOG

  1. This is so cool. I don’t use any health app at all but I love the idea of the daily yoga and google fit. Maybe I should try them out. Thank you for sharing with #StayCLassyMama

    1. I’ve always been sceptical of apps that offer something for nothing but I eventually decided I had nothing to lose and it’s fab. Wish I’d signed up sooner and got more vouchers!

  2. WinWalk sounds great, a bit like Runnister – only that app seems to be having problems cashing out at the moment and has been ‘under maintenance’ for what seems like an eternity. I love yoga, but I’ve never used an app for it. #fortheloveofblog

  3. This is great, I’ll be checking out every one of these. I’m especially interested in the walking for weight loss one. Thanks for the tips! Thanks so much for sharing with #Blogstravaganza xx

  4. Ooh super handy! I’m looking for some motivation to start exercising again and the are some great options. Thanks for linking up to #Blogstravaganza xx

  5. WinWalk seems like a win win, and I hadn’t heard of it. Thanks for drawing my attention to it. The Calm app sounds like it is doing the opposite by drawing you in and then handing out a stressful price tag! #Stayclassymama

    1. I am really annoyed about Calm changing things up like they have, but I still haven’t found anything that does it better, grr! WinWalk is fab, even if it takes you ages to get a voucher you’re still getting something for nothing essentially xx

    1. I really like them. Especially the Daily Yoga app. I got through three sessions today which was ace as the kid refused to leave the house and I couldn’t be doing with fighting him on it
