I remember moving house when I was in high school and our new house had a massive back garden, with a huge lawn and loads of space to play. That summer we got a badminton set and me and my sister spent hours in the garden playing. It was great. So when asked if L would maybe like his own badminton starter set, of course I said yes!
We’ve got the Yonex GR505 Racket Set, it’s perfect for beginners. Not too heavy but enough weight to be sturdy, you get two rackets, one orange and one yellow, in a storage bag and even with a couple of shuttlecocks.
It’s been really fun to watch him get to grips with a racket sport, we’ve never done much over and above swingball at home and at school they play football and maybe throw a bean bag once in a while. So it’s taken some learning but he’s getting there. Not much of a rally going yet but definitely a bit more control and a few reasonable shots starting to happen.
I can see what our summer is going to look like now, loads of time in the garden and me being very grateful for a variety of different games we can play. As it all comes in a storage bag with carry handle we can easily pop to the park to play if we want more space.

Hi all. This reminds me of my young days. My Mum did this for me too. We had ours and the next door neighbours long driveways side by side that were perfect for badminton!!! Only side effect was the gutterings of our houses ended up getting filled with shuttlecocks!!
