I’m rather excited about this one as I have a copy of The Dairy Book of Home Cookery from the late 90s and out of all the cookbooks I have in the kitchen this is the one I go back to time and time again. The spine is cracked, there are bookmarks and notes poking out everywhere, and, to be honest it literally falls open at the yorkshire pudding page as this recipe always works to give me the fluffiest, yet crispiest, well risen little puds ever.

It has everything from the basics like yorkies through to far more complex dishes and the whole reason I bought my copy of it when I moved out so many years ago was because I had been used to using my mum’s even older copy when I lived at home. It is a time tested format that just works.

Whilst I’ve never used a Zest for Life or The Quick After Work Cookbook they both look brilliant. I’ve seen A Zest for Life as I gave my mum a copy for Christmas and it is beautiful, fabulous pictures and the recipes looked marvellous, a good range and easy to make.

The Quick After Work Cookbook appeals, well mainly because of the title, quick meals for after work!! At the weekend I made stuffed Arancini, baked in the oven for 40 minutes after 2 hours of prep and a day of cooling in the fridge, just to be met by disdain from the child. I need more quick recipes and less all day ones, at least if the child still doesn’t eat it then I haven’t wasted all that time.
